Williamson.
(b) Detective
L. 3. C? Lai Kwong;
Interpreter Chiu Kwan Kit;
One Cantonese Sergeant
&
8 Regular Duty Cantonese Constables.
"These men left the Station on 19th Lecember when the first evacuation took place. Subsequently they failed to report for duty, and never returned to the station on re-occupation except for three Police Constables who turned up again on the 23rd December in plain clothes but bringing their arms and, ammunition with them. The three men had no genuine excuse. The others. were deserters pure and simple. The majority belonged to the party of which I placed
. P. S. A55 Fitzpatrick in charge, and 1 blame him partly for their deser- tion in that he left them to their own devices when he got on to a lorry."
"I saw the interpreter in the Gloucester Building after the surren- der and he claimed that he did not desert but that he had gone to Causeway Bay on the 19th to see his family and was unable to get back again."
